Estimados Colegas,
Para conmemorar el Segundo Aniversario de la Red Mexicana de Arqueología da inicio a una nueva serie de actividades lanzando su Primer Congreso Virtual de Arqueología, teniendo como tema central “El Arqueólogo Frente a la Sociedad”.
¿Cuál es el papel que juega el arqueólogo en la sociedad? ¿Su rol es diferente en los diferentes países y culturas del mundo o es el mismo? ¿Qué le aporta a la sociedad y que utilidad y uso tienen los conocimientos y artefactos que recupera? ¿Son monumentos para enaltecer el nacionalismo e identidad de los pueblos; deben aprovecharse para generar dinero a través del turismo o son testimonios del pasado, evidencia científica del desarrollo técnico y cultural; o armas políticas que muestran la superioridad cultural de ciertos grupos? ¿Sus descubrimientos deben ser públicos y el gobierno debe invertir en su conservación o deberían concesionarse a la iniciativa privada y pagar por verlos como curiosidades del pasado? Estas y otras numerosas preguntas motivan un amplio debate que merece ser discutido tanto por los profesionales como por el público en general, en aras de llegar a una mejor comprensión de los numerosos fenómenos que envuelve, así como sus posibles soluciones.
Por lo anterior, la RMA invita a todos sus miembros a participar con ponencias sobre estos y otros temas. Los participantes podrán remitir sus colaboraciones en español o inglés, apegándose a los requisitos de la convocatoria que podrán consultar en el siguiente enlace:

Dear Colleagues,
To commemorate the second anniversary of the Mexican Network of Archaeology begins a new series of activities launching its First Virtual Congress of Archaeology, with the theme «The Archaeologist to society.»
What is the role of the archaeologist in society? Their role is different in different countries and cultures of the world or is it? What contributes to society and what is the utility and use of the knowledge and artifacts recovered? Are monuments to exalt nationalism and identity of peoples, should be used to generate money through tourism or is evidence of the past, evidence of technical and cultural, or political weapons that show the cultural superiority of certain groups? Do their findings should be public and the government must invest in conservation or should concessions to private and pay for them as curiosities of the past? These and many other questions encourage a broad debate that deserves to be discussed by both professionals and the general public, in order to reach a better understanding of many phenomena involving, as well as possible solutions.
Therefore, the RMA invites all members to participate with presentations on these and other issues. Participants may submit their contributions in English or Spanish, adhering to the requirements of the notice to be posted on the following link:
